Michael Bakker (Dutch radio station Okay FM) reports:

RadioVisie reports:

RADIO MI AMIGO OPNIEUW IN DE LUCHT!

revi.gif (4372 Byte)Belofte maakt schuld!

ARUTZ SHEVA ON THE MOVE
a7eng1.jpg (4923 Byte)
Arutz Sheva Israel National Radio announces its new homepage on the Internet. The new gateway to the site <IsraelNationalNews.com>, which boasts Israel's first and largest Live Internet radio broadcast, features the top news stories of the day, and facilitates navigation through the site content. "We can already see that more people are reaching important pages that until now were simply buried too many clicks away," said Tzvi Barish, Director of Internet Development at Arutz Sheva. "On one short page, we now show links to our Newspaper, Radio, Video, and Info sections, and link the surfer directly to 'What's New' - recent additions and updates to the site."

A newly-launched feature on IsraelNationalNews.com is Daily Radio News from Israel in Easy Hebrew. Arutz Sheva Executive-Director Yaakov Katz explained the move: "We've received numerous requests over the years for audio news in easy Hebrew, and the initial response is very
encouraging. This is a much-needed service which is filling an educational vacuum." According to Katz, Arutz Sheva will soon be expanding its existing internet radio broadcasts in English, and adding streams in French and Russian.

Michael Bakker (Dutch radio station Okay FM) reports in the "zeezender" newsgroup:

Hans Knot reports:

Ad Roberts, former deejay with Mi Amigo, Caroline, Radio Monique and Radio 819 is back at the radioscene. He presents the weekly Billboard Hot Country Top 20 on Super FM in IJmuiden as well as stand in deejay on the station Okay FM which can be heard in Hilversum, Amsterdam and some other places

Last month we mentioned that former Monique, Radio Caroline and Radio Noordzee FM deejay
Erwin van der Bliek would start at a new dance station, Slam FM. At the last moment he has decided to pay full attention to his programme on Radio 3FM, the national popstation.

Jeroen Woelwater (real name Jeroen Soer), once the director of the very successful Radio 10, who started his career in radio in 1979 on Radio Caroline, is back in Holland. Jeroen is now managing director at the new commercial radio station Radio Nationaal.

66 year old
Sylvain Tack
, former owner and director of Radio Mi Amigo has been found guilty under a law in Belgium forbidding to advertise for products which can help you stop smoking. Only pharmaceutical shops are allowed to sell those products. Tack has to pay 400.000 Bfr. Also he has to pay 30 million Bfr which he gained by selling the product.

Talking about
Radio Mi Amigo, the old name has found a rebirth in Gran Canaria where the station is providing a German service on 89.8 FM. Mainly golden oldies and music from the eighties and nineties are being played. See their website at http://www.radiomiamigo.com

The Radio London RSL website reporting:

Radio London 2000

stillwond120.jpg (4099 Byte)Hi from us all at RADIO LONDON, were working hard right now in preparation of our new SummerY2K broadcast from Clacton Pier August 1st - 28th August.

So… what are we doing right now? Our engineer Roger Davis is working on this web site to make sure our programmes can be heard widely over the internet and he's working on re-tuning the transmitter and aligning the studio equipment. Paul Graham and Jim Marling have been working hard on sales, by the end of June we had already booked enough advertising to ensure that the broadcast would break even. Now, mid July we are on target to make this broadcast the first to make a profit. We are booking an impressive array of clients, which will make this broadcast sound the best yet. Watch out for an extensive BIG L poster campaign in East London and Essex on railway stations.

Ray Anderson has been working on the music playlist, together with Brian Long, a special BIG L FAB 500 Chart and a 100 song SUMMER OF LOVE CHART - 1967 has been compiled. An A1 giant wall poster has been produced counting down the Top 500 from the BIG L years, with a colour picture of the m.v. Galaxy and some of the BIG L deejays. This poster will be sold on air for £9.99 post free in the UK add £3 for international postage and is supplied in a cardboard tube.

“There is some superb music to play this time,” added Ray, “this broadcast will sound better than all the others put together”.

Over the last weekend of transmission we intend to broadcast the entire FAB 500 chart, (that will be a mammoth job).

Also, Listen for an hour of BEATLES music on Saturday mornings at 10.00 am on THE BEATLES SPECTACULAR and the RNLI Request Show on Sunday mornings

Ray and Norman Barrington have also been looking at some new PAMS jingles to be recorded in Dallas, the first Radio London jingle package since 1966, a decision on these will be made shortly.

Some BIG L JOCKS on the way…

Keith Skues will be on-air on Sunday 13th August at 3.00pm

Ian Damon is booked for Saturday 5th and 12th August at 12 midday

And John Ross Barnard will be news reading for us again

And many more will be heard again over 1143 kHz - 266 meters

So tune in, watch this space and tell a friend about

Taken from today´s Arutz 7's daily e-mail news service:

WITNESS POINTS TO GOLAN'S "OBSESSION" WITH ARUTZ-7

The trial of the management of Arutz-7 continues today in the Jerusalem Magistrates Court. Arutz-7's defense attorneys called to the witness stand
a former employee of the inspection division of the Ministry of Communications, Jay Nataf. Nataf testified that the station's broadcasts
did not interfere with the air traffic at Ben Gurion International Airport - in contrast with testimony offered beforehand by his superior, Chanan Golan. Nataf also testified that Golan, who was the central prosecution witness, had "an obsession with Arutz-7.'" Arutz-7's Effie Meir reported the following from the Court:
"I may not be totally objective, but it seems that the prosecution suffered a serious setback in today's hearing. Until just a few minutes ago, Jay Nataf testified. He explained how he and Chanan Golan tried their best to find [illegal] Arutz-7 transmitters [on the mainland], but were unsuccessful, and how Golan said on several occasions, 'I have got to get Arutz-7!' On one occasion, Nataf said to Golan: 'There are plenty of stations whose signals are really interfering with flights to and from the
airport - why don't we pursue them?' Golan replied, 'Don't bother me!' Nataf also described the details of a planned raid on Arutz-7 three years ago, which was eventually canceled. It was to include huge trucks, helicopters and 350 security forces..."

ARUTZ-7: PROSECUTION CASE LACKING

The State Prosecution has finished presenting its case in the trial of the managers of Arutz-7 Radio. The station's lawyers, attorneys Dan Sela and
Giorah Aderet, maintained at this week's court session that the prosecution had not proven that Arutz-7 - which transmits from the sea - transgressed any broadcasting law. Arutz-7's lawyers noted that many of the same political figures who spent great efforts defending Abie Natan's Voice of Peace ship during the 22 years which it broadcast, were leading the campaign to shut down Arutz-7. Attorneys Sela and Aderet plan to call to the witness stand such figures including former Ministers of Communications, Yossi Sarid, and former Chiefs of Israel's police department to explain why they did not act against - and even encouraged - Abie Nathan's broadcasts.

Radio London 2000

John Platt reporting:

The Radio London RSL will take place between August 1st and 28th. The studio will be on Clacton Pier and they will broadcast on 1143 kHz (262 Mts.) but they will call it 266. So far, confirmed names are Keith Skues, Dave Cash, Ian Damon. John Peel, Tommy Vance, Pete Brady, Ed Stewart have also been invited but as yet they have not confirm whether they can get there.

The format will be Big L, as in the 60's but the music used will be extended up to the early 70's. People are invited to visit the studio and a shop which will be open selling offshore radio memorabilia. The shop is being shared by the British Elvis Presley fan club.

The broadcast will be available on the internet.

If people want to contact the organiser, they should contact
Paul.graham16@uk.dreamcast.com

Studio Anorak reporting:

Dates – 1st August to 28th August 2000

Frequency – 1143kHz, 262m

stillwond120.jpg (4099 Byte)Following a meeting on June 8th with the management of Clacton Pier the proposal to use either Oscar's Nightclub or a single-decker bus for the broadcast has been scrapped. Officials preferred the concept of the RSL attracting visitors to the far end of the pier, so it is now proposed that the studio will be an extremely well-tethered caravan. The pier management is very excited and supportive of Radio London using the structure as the centre for the broadcast, as 50,000 people visit it every MONTH!

Some anoraks feel that a Big L broadcast isn't worthwhile unless it's from a ship. A ship would have been 'wonderful' and as many of you will know, there were plans to use the Mebo III for this RSL. However, this is not now practical, mainly because of the difficulties with access to the ship while it's moored at the old railway pier in Harwich. Unless anyone's got the right ship in the right place, which they are prepared to provide for next to nothing, a home above, rather than on the sea, must suffice.

Paul Graham and the team should be applauded for their efforts in keeping Radio London alive, on the air and coming out of people's trannies, which is exactly what we all want. A studio feed of the station output is to also to be made available on the Internet, courtesy of KeConnect, who supplied the Net feed of the RNI RSL. A link will be provided from this site.

Original Radio London jocks who have pledged their support and who aim to make personal appearances during the broadcast include Pete Brady, Keith Skues and Dave Cash. A surprise VIP guest ex-offshore presenter, whose name is still under wraps at present, is confirmed for 3.00pm on August 14th. When we can reveal all, we will!

For anyone wishing to advertise on the RSL, a rate card will shortly be appearing.

John Platt reporting:

Density Reunion

All of us who listened or were involved with Big L during the 60's are aware of what she meant to us.

However, there is a group of people who spent a couple of years on board the Galaxy who know nothing about Radio London.

Flag1.jpg (29890 Byte)I am talking about the wartime crew of the Density, as she was then. This small group of men hold biannual reunions in Texas and had no idea that the ship had another life. They were told by the USN that she was scrapped in 1947.

I have contacted the guys and given them the full history of the old girl. In exchange they have sent me the ships full wartime history, pictures of the ship during the 1940's, crew rosters and even a picture of her wartime
flag.

They have invited me to their next reunion which will be Dallas, Texas next year and requested that I make the reunion date and location available to anyone who would like to go. It will be in September and last for 2 days.

Bridge1.jpg (25446 Byte)They would be very pleased to meet anyone who has something to tell them about her Big L days. Tom Danaher is going and probably Ben Toney as well.

They can not pay any expenses so no help there I am afraid.

If you would like to go would you contact me on xpz67@btinternet.com or call me on 01959 561810 (UK) and I may be able to get discounts on tickets and hotels.

By the way look at the picture of the Density's flag and another taken during the War.

From today´s Maariv newspaper:

It was written that two separate petitions were served to Israels High court of Justice against the Second Channels decision to let the local Tel-Aviv religious radio station "Radio Kol-Hai" extend its broadcasts to the Jerusalem area.

The petitions were served against both the Second Channel radio and TV Authority, and Radio Kol-Hai. Both bodies state that behind the petitions are in fact representatives of Arutz 7 and members of Shas's (a Sephardic religious political party) numerous pirate radio stations that broadcast to the Jerusalem area.

On the 18th May, a petition was served by lawyer Dan Sela on behalf of Channel 15 Jerusalem LTD. Sela also acts as legal advisor to Arutz 7. One of the chief stockholders of  Channel 15 Jerusalem is Tamar Katz from Bet-El - wife of Yaakov Katz - one of the founders and owners of Arutz 7.

Last Wednesday another petition was served by the "Tibota" Company. They define themselves as a "communications" company. They are represented by a lawyer called Nadav Ashal, who originates from the law firm of Shlomo Deri, brother of a former leader of the Shas party Arie Deri.

Lawyer Sela claims that there is no link between Channel 15 Jerusalem and Arutz 7, and also in the other petition,Shas is not mentioned in any way. But Radio Kol-Hai claim that behind both petitions are pirate radio stations that with all the "chutzpah", are fighting legal radio stations and legal decisions.

Israeli Authorities , sending humanitarian/medical aid to the hungry in Ethiopia, have decided to call the operation "Operation Abie". The operation has been named after the peace campaigner, and owner of the former offshore station the "Voice of Peace" Abie Nathan.

In the framework of the operation, a large group of doctors, nurses and volunteers will leave Israel tomorrow, and will be working from the Northern Ethiopian city of Dasa. From there they will operate to mobile hospitals.

The head of the group is Dr. Yaakov Adler, and it is he who suggested to the authorities to name the operation after his good friend, in recognition of all his humanitarian deeds throughout the world through the years.

TTS Mediapro reports:

Radio Caroline South Proposed RSL Summer 2000

In an exclusive statement to TTS-Mediapro today Mr Peter Moore, representing the Radio Caroline organisation, stated that there would not be a Radio Caroline RSL from the Mebo 3 (LV 18) this summer which would have his authorisation or blessing.

Mr Moore said that there had been discussions but that the Mebo 3 (LV 18) had no public access without which an RSL would not be profitable, and thus a drain on the Caroline organisation's limited funds.

He further stated that the dates he had in mind, which included the date 14 August, had apparently been booked for an RSL by another organisation.

Peter Moore stressed that for authentic confirmed news on the activities of the Radio Caroline group people should refer to their web site, telephone information line, or give him a call!

A spokesman for the Radio London group, who did not wish to be identified, said that they would probably not use the Mebo 3 (LV 18) for the same reason as the Caroline group, limited public access, and are looking to relocate their RSL. However he confirmed that the Radio London broadcast will go ahead between 18 July and 14 August 2000.

RNI RSL

Clive Boutell reports on his website:

rni2000.jpg (6182 Byte)Radio Northsea International is now in its final week of broadcasting, presenters on board for the final week include Norman Barrington, Paul Graham, Paul Maclaren, Victor Hartman and Phil Mitchell. RNI will go 24 hours for the last weekend with the Skyline programme between 3am and 6am.

RNI will closedown at 6pm on Monday 8th May, this will enable more distant listeners to the 1575 khz signal to hear the final hour.

Getting visitors aboard the ship has been a major problem because of the ships location alongside the derelict pier, the only safe way has been via a small dingy but this has not always been possible due to a shortage of qualified boatmen and weather conditions. Anyone who still wishes to visit the radioship should contact Tony O'Neil on 0797 1766808 first to see if it is possible. It is possible that the Mebo III may move for the last few days of the broadcast, stay tuned to 1575 khz for further details.

The problems in getting visitors aboard the Mebo III has resulted in a major loss of revenue for the project and unless things pick up in the last week it looks certain to make a loss. Plans For Radio Caroline to broadcast from the Mebo III during June have now been dropped and the summer broadcast for the Harwich Sea Festival is also looking uncertain. It is unlikely the lightvessel will ever go to sea again, she is in need of a major refit and the costs involved would be too great, she only just made it last time.

The LV18 trust set up to secure the vessels future is now in doubt, it is very difficult to get on board the ship to carry out restoration work now that the Harwich to Felixtowe foot ferry is no longer in operation and unless the problems with access to the vessel are resolved her future as a radioship is looking very bleak.

The Radio Magazine reporting:

Station May Drop Offshore Plans
Plans for long wave high-power station Delta Radio to locate its transmitter base on a man-made structure in International Waters of the North Sea off Holland may be ditched after a court ruled that the station, backed by American, British and European finance, can after all use the shortwave transmitter site at Kootwijk. Kootwijk in the province of Gelderland was the original site proposed by Delta, but it met with strong protests.
There are still complaints from conservation groups which have to be addressed before the project can proceed. It may be another six months before a final decision is made on the way forward for the station which will target the United Kingdom with its programming.

There are exiciting plans with the "Mebo 3" which is currently used for the RNI RSL broadcasts in Harwich. Starting at the end of June, there will be a Radio Caroline South RSL from the former lightship. Peter Moore is said to have given his o.k. for using the Caroline name. Johnnie Walker, Mike Ahearn and Tommy Vance are amongst those DJs who are reported to have agreed to take part. Robbie Dale is currently being contacted to be persuaded to come over to the UK.

Starting at the end of August, a new Radio London RSL will broadcast from the Mebo 3. The DJ list includes Tommy Vance again plus Willy Walker and Mike Lennox. (Note from the editor: This item is no April fools joke...)

RNI RSL

pgraham.jpg (19459 Byte)Yesterday, April 11th 2000, Colin Lamb reported on his RNI website:

RNI Re-launch delayed .

Transmissions on 1575 khz will resume as soon as possible.

RNI took to the air at midnight on 11th April 2000 with test transmissions which were due to continue until 6am when Paul Maclaren would open RNI with the breakfast show. Continuous Music was heard on 1575 khz just after midnight but the signal strength was very poor and the transmitter left the air several times for tuning adjustments. Tests were abandoned at 0130 as the antenna array was making contact with the original ships mast causing it to detune. Modifacations were carried out during the morning and further test transmissions were carried out from around mid-day, however this time further problems were encounterd with the new studio mixer resulting in poor quality audio and the station left the air at around 1530 hrs. The ex-Laser 558 mixer used during last summers broadcast has been delivered to the Trinity House pier in Harwich but sea conditions are too choppy to transfer it over in the small dingy which is used to service the ship. It is hoped that the replacement mixer can be put on board sometime tomorrow and transmissions will begin as soon as it is in place.

Today Robert Magniez from France added:

12.36h CET: Test on 1575 have just started from the Mebo III. Apparently they had transmitter troubles.

12.45h : "You´re listening to RNI, good evening". Evening!!! Is that a tape ??

The signal here at the northwest French coastline is strong to very strong.
