Tom Merriman overleden, de vader van de jingles

Op woensdagmorgen 11 november is Tom Merriman overleden, hij is 85 jaar oud geworden. Merriman had al enige tijd last van een afnemende gezondheid, hij overleed in de nacht in een verzorgingshuis in de buurt van Dallas. Net twee dagen eerder was hij opgenomen in de 'Texas radio Hall of fame' wegens zijn verdiensten voor dit medium.

Tom Merriman (New York, 1926) was HET grote talent in jingleand. Hij was de mede-oprichter van CRC, een jinglemaatschappij in Dallas, die het het legendarische PAMS beconcurreerde, en was naamgever van TM Productions in Dallas, dat zeker in de late jaren zeventig en tachtig op een hoge creatieve top zou belanden.

Merriman schreef duizenden radiojingles, die ook in Nederland veel faam brachten aan de radiostations die ze kochten. In 1976 schafte Veronica bijvoorbeeld 'The Power' aan, en het komt mede door dit jinglepakket, concludeerde radiodirecteur Lex Harding later, dat Veronica zo succesvol tot een A-omroep wist uit te groeien, eenmaal door de wetgeving van zee verbannen. Het logo werd in Nederland uitgeroepen dat 'beste radio-melodie ooit'.

De TROS kocht "The Winning Score' en dat was misschien wel het magnum opus van Tom Merriman: filmmuziek, maar dan voor op de radio, gespeeld door een Hollywood-orkest met 75 musici.

In 1991 dirigeerde hij in Hilversum eigenhandig het Metropole Orkest, voor de jingles die hij voor NOS Radio en de Avondspits had geschreven. Eeuwig zonde nog dat NOS' Met Het Oog Op Morgen nooit de begin- en eindleaders heeft gebruikt (op de bladmuziek heten ze "eye-opener'en 'eyecloser') die Merriman ter gelegenheid voor hen maakte).

Tom Merriman werd in oktober 2008 geëerd bij een tribute die voor hem was georganiseerd, toen duidelijk werd dat zijn gezondheid niet meer zou verbeteren. Alle concurrenten in jinglestad Dallas zijn toen gebroederlijk bijeen. En ze deelden de slotconclusie: niemand in deze jingle-industrie had de grote arrangeurskwaliteiten van Tom. En niemand wist in al die jaren zo'n enorme productie van zo'n hoge kwaliteit te leveren.

Hij wordt beschouwd als 'father'van de jingle. Was orkestleider van het orkestje bij KLIF, het innovatieve station van Gordon McLendon die met het pakket van zelfpromotie, jingles en top 40 de toon zette voor de hele radio-industrie. Schreef in 1951 de eerste echte jingles in Dallas, en werkte zelfs dit jaar nog aan nieuwe pakketten - een carrière van uiteindelijk 58 jaar in radioland. Dat moest ook wel, want vanwege drie echtscheidingen diende er zelfs op deze hoge leeftijd nog veel brood op de plank te worden gebracht.
De laatste jaren was Tom Merriman gehuwd met Jackie Dickson, voormalige leadzangeres van PAMS, CRC en uit de hoogtijdagen van TM zelf.

Merriman schreef ook voor concurrenten van de publieke omroep heel veel muziek: voor Gwinsound bijvoorbeeld (het 'Chairman of the board pakket' dat Noordzee in 1970-1974 zo harstochtelijk gebruikte). Maar ook nieuwsleaders die door Laser en Mi Amigo werden gebruikt. In 1991 maakte hij het laatste jinglepakket voor 'Satellite Radio Luxembourg'. Ook bij Capital Radio in London bleef hij de laatste jaren kind aan huis.

En zijn productiemuziek (Production Source, The Producer) werden bij de omroepen jarenlang zeer intensief gebruikt en leverden klassiekers: of het nu de vormgeving van KRO Echo betrof, of de uuropeners van de TROS of de afsluiter van de Avondspits.

Tom zal waarschijnlijk in Dallas worden begraven. Volgens Ken Justiss, vriend-jinglemaker uit The Big D, die twee dagen geleden net de awards voor Tom in ontvangst nam, komt het verscheiden van de jinglelegende toch nog als een schok. Hij meldt: "Tom opened his eyes (with difficulty) and saw the items I brought back for him from the Texas Radio Hall of Fame induction.". Zijn medevennoot van toen, Jim Long, was net dit weekeinde geweest. "So that was a bit of good timing."

Beeld en Geluid presenteert: Time to Face the Music

Hilversum – Het Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid organiseert op vrijdagmiddag 6 november een symposium over radiojingles en televisietunes: Time to Face the Music – radiojingles en televisietunes nader bekeken. Het symposium is mogelijk gemaakt met medewerking van eStation, het Genootschap radiojingles en –tunes en Buma Cultuur. Deze vrijdagmiddag wordt aandacht besteed aan de professionalisering van het vakgebied. Centraal staat het vakmanschap achter een goede tune op radio en televisie. Niet eerder stonden beide vakgebieden centraal op een symposium. Bekende namen tijdens dit symposium zijn Giel Beelen, David Lowe (BBC) en Stephen Emmer, Nederlands eerste fulltime mediacomponist.

Op het programma staan deskundigen van de opdrachtmuziek uit zowel de beroepspraktijk als de wetenschap. Hun bijdragen worden geïllustreerd met geluidsmateriaal opgediept uit de archieven van Beeld en Geluid en richten zich op de onderbelichte rol van de herkenningsmelodie die sterk bijdraagt aan de identiteit en de stijl van een radio- of televisieprogramma. Precies negentig jaar na de eerste radio-uitzending door Ir. Hanso Idzerda en zijn eerste jingle (een speeldoosmelodie) zoomt het symposium in op de geschiedenis van jingles en de relatie tussen de inhoud van een programma en de keuze voor een tune, waaraan tot nu toe weinig aandacht is besteed.

Sprekers zijn journalist Benno Roozen (Genootschap radiojingles en -tunes), Ger Tillekens (Universiteit van Groningen), Giel Beelen (VARA radio) en de Britse componist David Lowe (bekend van zijn idents voor de BBC). In een panel wordt de ontwikkeling van tunes in Nederland bekeken. Tunemakers Stephen Emmer (die tevens zijn 25-jarig jubileum als componist viert), Martijn Schimmer en Dennis Alfarez (TMF/MTV) bespreken de wisselwerking met beeldmakers, aan de hand van uitspraken van Jaap Drupsteen, Ron van Roon en Geert van Ooijen. Tijdens het symposium wordt door producent VHU Europe live een radiojingle gemaakt.

En uiteraard in de jaren '80 op de Ross Revenge, bij Veronica en Radio 10, begin jaren '90 bij RTL Rock Radio en ... nog veel meer !
Ron Bisschop vertelt over al die radiostations, belevenissen en ervaringen van toen in een twee uur durend programma vol fragmenten.

Presenter Mike Ahern dies at 67
Former Radio Caroline presenter Mike Ahern has died at the age of 67.

Mike, who only last week celebrated his birthday, was also well known for his work on Radio 1 and Capital Gold. Most recently, at Easter this year, he was heard on Pirate BBC Essex.

Born in Liverpool, he was a barman and a clerk before getting his big break on Radio Caroline, at first joining the station’s North ship off the Isle Of Man. He moved to Caroline’s South ship in 1965 to help aid the network’s flagging figures.

He departed Caroline in 1967 for Radio One, though it was a short lived affair with Ahern departing for Australia to work for a slew of stations there including 4BC and 6PM.

He returned to the UK in 1988 and worked for Essex Radio, Piccadilly Radio and Country-1035 among others.

Roy Lindau has passed away

I regret the off-shore radio community that Roy Lindau died at his home in Croton-on-Hudson, NY last month. Roy had been fighting cancer for the past decade. He had been getting an experimental treatment from the Sloan-Kettering hospital in New York. It was Roy's vision that world-wide advertisers would step up to sponsor an off-shore radio station that made investment in the MV Communicator and LASER 558 attractive, and thereby made the project possible. Roy was passionate about creating a high profile mass audience European radio station. He was President of Music Media International, the adverting arm of LASER 558, and was a driving force behind the rest of the LASER operation.

I've heard this evening that Roy Lindau has also passed away after losing a lengthy battle with cancer. Many of you will know that he and I had a big spat in the early days of Laser. While I share Ronan's view that Roy was greedy and made many very bad decisions (such as keeping listener mail from DJs) I do still feel that he deserves recognition for what he did to help offshore radio revive again the 80s.

Roy was brought in to market the new Radio Caroline in 1981 but proved to be too extravagent, among other things. In 1983 I went straight to him to get marketing advice and introduced him to John Kenning, who was one of the founders and at that time in charge of the Laser project. I had originally tried to get Ronan to meet with John thinking the projects could merge and help each other, but Ronan stalled. and he had fallen out over something or other, and when I offered to introduce John to caroline, Ronan stalled.

I knew that any offshore station needed a revenue stream, and Roy sounded like the right man for the role so I took John across to meet him - Roy was still working at Major Market Radio at that time.

Roy and I both had very similar goals and beliefs, but Roy wanted to centre everything in Madison Avenue and keep the DJs and crew in poverty while the sales boys lived a life of Reilly with junkets to Vegas, etc. He was far more of a business man than I, just a poor wet-back with principles. He used me, as he did many others.

But lets be clear - while Roy didn't close any advertising deals, it was his fabulous book of contacts and sheer marketing professionalism that convinced various backers to stump up literally millions of US dollars for Caroline, and over a million (Irish) pounds for Laser. And for that we should be very grateful for his input to the watery wireless scene. I for one learned a lot from the guy and I really do wish him well.

Club Mi Amigo op zondagmiddag 2 keer met een terugblik op de 30 augustus 1602 AM-uitzending.
Na de bijzonder geslaagde live-uitzending van 30 augustus aan boord van het zendschip Jenni Baynton, waar Radio Mi Amigo 192 ondermeer de vrijwel gehele originele DJ ploeg uit 1974 mocht verwelkomen, wordt voor de liefhebbers nog eenmaal teruggekeken op dit evenement in 2 afleveringen van Club Mi Amigo.

Bijzondere momenten opnieuw te beluisteren voor iedereen die het gemist heeft.
Op de zondagmiddagen 4- en 11 oktober van 17- tot 19 uur komen bijzondere momenten en interviews met vrijwel alle gasten nog eenmaal in de uitzending. Bert Bennett, Norbert, Frans van der Drift, Dick Verheul, Ferry Eden, Will van der Steen, Peter Jager, Frans van der Meer, Peter Vrakking, Rob van Wezel, Bert van der Laan, Hendrik van Nellestijn, Peter de Vries, Jaap Jansen, Michael Bakker, Hans de Knegt, Arco Noom, Elly van Amstel, Marc Simons, Peter Vos, John Westland ..... de lijst van aanwezige medewerkers van toen en nu was lang. Daarnaast kwamen Maurice Bokkebroek, Ton Schipper en Kees Borrell nog telefonisch in de uitzending. Een meer dan gezellige radiodag dus aan boord van de Jenni Baynton, waar we met plezier in Club Mi Amigo twee weken lang op terugblikken.

De hoog gewaardeerde serie Club Mi Amigo's heeft inmiddels in het najaarsseizoen al weer een aantal memorabele afleveringen achter de rug.
Ferry Eden over zijn periode bij Mi Amigo en Monique, Bart van Gogh over zijn kortstondige verblijf op de MV Mi Amigo als Erik Beekman en uiteraard over zijn vele Top Format jingles en liefhebber pur sang en kenner bij uitstek Douwe Dijkstra.

Ad Roberts vertelt over zijn zeezenderjaren op zondagmiddag 27 september van 17- tot 19 uur.
Op zondagmiddag 27 september van 17- tot 19 uur ontvangt presentator Frans van der Meer dit keer Ad Roberts. Hij heeft al sinds het begin van de jaren '70 van alles met- en op de MV Mi Amigo meegemaakt. En uiteraard in de jaren '80 op de Ross Revenge. Daarbij weet Ad er ook nog eens beeldend over te vertellen. Over de eerste kennismaking met de zeezenders, de situatie op de diverse schepen, doorspekt met anekdotes ....... Beleef het dus mee, Ad's avonturen aan land en vooral op zee.

Bonnie was vanaf zeer jonge leeftijd een verwoed verzamelaar op het gebied van radio. Zijn collectie bestaat voor 40 procent uit programma's van de Amerikaanse radio.
Ik heb het over tunes, jingles en programma's, deze zijn voornamelijk afkomstig uit de studio's zelf. Dus topkwaliteit!
Hij droeg de zeezenders ook een warm hart toe, Radio Noordzee en Radio Caroline waren zijn favorieten. Omdat hij op de rand van Den Haag woonde was er een perfect middengolf ontvangst. Maar hij vergat de andere zeezenders ook niet.
In het arsenaal van zijn radioarchief zitten ook bijna alle boeken die uitgebracht zijn op het gebied van de radio. Vanaf 1977 hield hij tot in detail alle kranten en tijdschriften in de gaten waardoor er een prachtig boekwerk is te bewonderen in de vorm van knipsels.
Op videogebied is er veel te zien over de radio, ik heb het dan over de specials die uitgezonden zijn via de Nederlandse, Engelse en Belgische televisie zenders.
Daarnaast zijn er veel oude televisie programma's die niet met radio te maken hebben. Het zijn programma's die hoogtij vierden tijdens de zeezenderperiode.
Bonnie had goede internationale connecties in de radiowereld. Daardoor had hij veel materiaal rechtstreeks van deze radiostations, waaronder video's, foto's en meer.
Bonnie was een gepassioneerd mens, die we zeker niet mogen vergeten.

Nieuwe start Club Mi Amigo op zondagmiddag.
De hoog gewaardeerde serie Club Mi Amigo's is inmiddels in het najaarsseizoen weer begonnen. In de aflevering van 6 september wist Ferry Eden op kleurijke wijze te vertellen over zijn periode bij Mi Amigo en Monique. Op 13 september verhaalde Bart van Gogh over zijn kortsondige verblijf op de MV Mi Amigo als Erik Beekman en uiteraard over alle jingles van zijn "Top Format" hand.

Liefhebber pur sang en kenner bij uitstek Douwe Dijkstra centraal op zondagmiddag 20 september van 17- tot 18 uur.
Op zondagmiddag 20 september van 17- tot 18 uur wordt Douwe Dijkstra door presentator Bert van der Laan als gast verwelkomd. Hij bezocht als fan van vrije radio vanaf de Noordzee de studio's in Playa de Aro meerdere malen en maakte unieke opnames. Over deze trips naar Spanje, de sfeer van toen, de DJ's, de techniek en nog veel meer weet Douwe uit de eerste hand beeldend te vertellen. En over de blijvende vriendschap met ondermeer Maurice Bokkebroek ..... Kortom, wederom een aanrader.

Lifetime achievement award voor 100-jarige Bull Verweij

Oprichter zeezender Radio Veronica gehuldigd

Naarden, 12 september 2009 - Hendrik “Bull” Verweij, oprichter van de legendarische zeezender Radio Veronica, is vanmiddag op zijn 100ste verjaardag in Loosdrecht gehuldigd. Hij ontving uit handen van nieuwslezer Arend Langenberg en de CEO van Radio Veronica Ab Trik een Lifetime Achievement Award voor zijn bijdrage aan de commerciële radio in Nederland.

CEO Radio Veronica Ab Trik: “Bull Verweij heeft aan de basis gestaan van wat radio nu is in Nederland. Het is een enorm voorrecht om deze radio icoon, op zijn 100ste verjaardag te mogen eren met een Lifetime achievement award.”

Hendrik “Bull” Verweij is oprichter van de legendarische zeezender Radio Veronica. In 1960 besloot hij samen met zijn broers, de door radiohandelaren opgerichte, Vrije Radio Omroep Nederland te kopen, inclusief het zendschip de MS Borkum Riff waarvan zeezender Radio Veronica uitzond. De broers maakten roerige radiotijden mee. Tot en met 1975 was Bull Verweij directeur van de zender. In 2003 gaf hij als grondlegger van zeezender Radio Veronica het startsein voor het huidige Radio Veronica.

Nieuwe start Club Mi Amigo op zondagmiddag.
De hoog gewaardeerde serie Club Mi Amigo's is inmiddels in het najaarsseizoen weer begonnen. In de vorige aflevering wist Ferry Eden op kleurijke wijze te vertellen over zijn periode bij Mi Amigo en Monique. En over alle andere stations ... en zijn grote passie; openbaar vervoer.

Bart van Gogh centraal op zondagmiddag 13 september van 17- tot 19 uur.
Op zondagmiddag 13 september van 17- tot 19 uur wordt Bart van Gogh als gast verwelkomd. Tegenwoordig bij vrijwel iedere radioliefhebber bekend als de man achter vele bijzondere jinglepakketten van Top Format. Maar ... na de eerste kennismaking met radio in Den Haag was hij in 1977 te beluisteren als Erik Beekman aan boord van de Mi Amigo. Een (te) kortsondig, maar bijzonder radio-avontuur, waarover Bart alle details uit de doeken doet. Net als over de inmiddels ontelbare jingles, die hij in de loop der jaren heeft geproduceerd. Bijzondere fragmenten van de shows van Erik Beekman en .... heel veel jingles !
2 uur lang genieten voor de echte liefhebber in Club Mi Amigo op zondagmiddag 13 september.

Radio Monique 963; Nieuws en een oproepje!

Achter de schermen wordt momenteel weer druk gewerkt om onze terugkeer voor te bereiden. Niet alleen zal onze uitzending op onze verjaardag 16 december a.s. van extra technisch vernuft zijn uitgerust maar willen wij ook grandioos terugkeren.

Het afgelopen weekend is er flink getest met diverse nieuwe mogelijkheden om jullie de best mogelijk kwaliteit aan te kunnen bieden en ook al kunnen jullie dit niet beluisteren er wordt nog steeds door getest, maar dat heeft meerdere doelen. Ook hiervan zullen we jullie op de hoogte houden.
Er wordt op diverse fronten gewerkt om Monique963 weer helemaal terug te krijgen… ook na 16 december. Het zou leuk zijn om wat meer programma’s met DJ’s aan te bieden. Als je denkt dat je ons team zou willen versterken moet je maar even mailen naar studio©radiomonique963.nl

Nieuwe start Club Mi Amigo op zondagmiddag.
Na de bijzonder geslaagde live-uitzending van 30 augustus aan boord van het zendschip Jenni Baynton, waar Radio Mi Amigo 192 ondermeer Bert Bennett, Frans van der Drift, Will van der Steen en Norbert van de originele DJ ploeg uit 1974 mocht verwelkomen, wordt aanstaande zondag een nieuwe start gemaakt met de hoog gewaardeerde serie Club Mi Amigo's.

Ferry Eden centraal op zondagmiddag 6 september van 17- tot 19 uur.
Op zondagmiddag 6 september van 17- tot 19 uur wordt Ferry Eden ontvangen door Michael Bakker, die deze eerste aflevering uit de nieuwe reeks presenteert. Met Michael kijkt Ferry terug op zijn periode voor-, bij- en na Mi Amigo op de Noordzee in de jaren '70. Vele verhalen over het maken van programma's en het leven aan boord presenteren de revue. Voorzien van fragmenten, jingles en muziek uit die tijd, bijeengezocht door producer Peter Vrakking.
Overigens was ook Ferry Eden presenterend en wel aanwezig tijdens het evenement in Harlingen op 30 augustus evenals Dick Verheul, die later dit najaar ook in een aflevering van Club Mi Amigo zijn opwachting zal maken. Volgende week, zondag 13 september, is het de beurt aan Bart van Gogh (tegenwoordig Top Format) die als Erik Beekman in begin 1977 aan boord ging van de Mi Amigo.

Radio Northsea International returns
Radio Northsea International can be heard on Surfradio for two days. On August 31st. 1974 the offshore radio stations off the Dutch Coast had to cease their transmissions due to a Dutch Governmental decision to bring in an act against the radiostations transmitting from ships. This is coming weekend 35 years ago and that is why Surfradio will replay the original programmes as broadcast on Sunday, August 30th. 1974, from 12 noon till midnight European time. This will let you listen to the close down of the International/English service of RNI = Radio Northsea International. On Monday the 31st. of August Surfradio will give a complete replay of the 31st of August 1974 from 9 in the morning until 8 o’clock in the evening when the station closed down forever. Between 13.00 and 15.00 hours you can hear the final two hours of the International Shortwave service of RNI. These programmes come from my own archives and are in Studio quality. The Foundation Norderney presents 50 Years of Radio Veronica. During the whole month of August the programming of the internet radiostation Veronica192.nl pays attention to the fact Veronica was registrated as an offshore radio station in 1959 and started broadcasts in April 1960. Also the month of August remembers the Dutch people to the fact in 1974 on the 31st there came an end to the offshore broadcasts from the station. Up till midnight on August 31st you can listen to old Veronica programmes on www.veronica192.nl as well on 1584 AM on the frequency of Radio Paradise in certain parts of Holland. Very special will be the programming of the last week as from Tuesday August 25th up till August 31st all the old original studiotapes, which are still in very good condition, will be repeated hour rafter hour. In 1974 gebeurde dat via 538 meter, 558 kHz. Nu, precies 35 jaar later kunt u opnieuw het moment beleven waarop Radio Veronica en de democratie in Nederland de mond werd gesnoerd.
Met trots kondigen Spectrum Radio en Radio Seagull aan dat u de laatste twee uren niet alleen via 538 meter, 559 kHz worden uitgezonden van 15.00 uur tot 17.00uur, maar ook in geheel London via DAB te beluisteren zullen zijn van 16.00 tot 18.00 uur. Actualiteitenrubriek Eén Vandaag (tv Nederland 1) staat maandag 31 augustus uitgebreid stil bij het stoppen van Radio Veronica als zender op zee. Hoe werd het laatste uur beleefd, waarmee dit stukje radio-geschiedenis werd afgesloten? Hoe wordt er in retrospectief gekeken naar de woorden van Rob Out, dat met het verdwijnen van Veronica ook 'een beetje de democratie in Nederland' zou gaan verdwijnen. Maandag is het precies 35 jaar geleden dat de zender na veertien jaar de knop moest omdraaien.
Eén vandaag kijkt op deze roemruchte periode terug met Auke Kok, die een boek over Veronica-als-zeezender schreef (Dit Was Veronica), met Dick Offringa, de luisteraar van het eerste uur en met Jelle Boonstra, die als 17-jarige het laatste uur meemaakte op zee, nog geen veertig meter van het zendschip verwijderd. Hij maakte toen ook diverse foto's, die in het boek van Auke Kok zijn opgenomen, en die nu ook de enige blijken van het schip op het moment dat de zender uit de ether verdween. Er werd ook gefilmd in het Rockmuseum in Hoek van Holland waar sinds kort een Veronica-studio uit de jaren zestig is opgesteld.

Briefly, the month of August marks the anniversaries of some low points in Caroline's history.
At midnight on August 14th 1967 a new law came into force in the UK. Its aim, by and large achieved, was to close us down. Radio Caroline simply ignored the legislation and carried on broadcasting until March the following year when our ships were towed away.
We returned to the air in 1972, this time operating from off the coast of Holland. Unfortunately the Dutch introduced a similar law which came into effect at midnight on August 31st 1974. Caroline once again chose not to bow. We moved our ship, the Mi Amigo, back to the UK from where we carried on broadcasting until she sadly sank in March 1980.
Caroline returned for a third time in 1983, this time from on board the Ross Revenge. From our anchorage off the UK coast we continued quite happily until we became victim of a raid on our ship carried out by Dutch and British authorities. This draconian and illegal act took place on August 19th 1989 and marked the beginning of the end of our time at sea.
Commemorating these events is part of the reason the transmitters on board Ross Revenge will be active once again over the Bank Holiday weekend. We are also using the opportunity to determine the possibilities for future broadcasts. If you are in Tilbury or the surrounding areas of south Essex and north Kent you will be able to hear us on 531 kHz AM. This test broadcast is on the closest available frequency to the last one we used to broadcast from international waters.
Our usual outlets via the internet and SKY 0199 will also be carrying programmes from Ross Revenge.

De maand augustus is traditioneel aan de Zeezenders ze werden namelijk werden letterlijk en figuurlijk tot zinken gebracht en daar was iedereen rouwing om en vooral kwaad. Want wat was namelijk hun misdaad?

Ze brachten ons muziek en Reklames en brachten ons een vorm van Radio maken die nauwelijks ergens anders te horen was. Ze hadden ook een zekere vrijheid omdat ze op ship zaten in het midden in De Noordzee, en de micofoon was dat wapen van die vrijheid of dat nu live was of via bandopnames.

Om dit te herdenken heb ik een stream op gezet van op een extra computer met oude opnames van de Zeezenders tussen 1958 en 1990. Die zal op 1 aug as starten vanaf 00:00 uur en 24 uur per dag draaien tot en met 31 aug om 00:00 uur en dan is het wel afeglopen. De opnames zullen in willekeurige volgorde worden afgespeelt door de playlist.het zijn zo ontelbaar vele uren aan opnames dat er de tel ben bij kwijt geraakt. De kwaliteit varieert van slecht met veel ruis tot matig en uitstekend datzijn dan studiomaster copies. En dat wil ik allemaal delen met jullie omdat ik zelf een Zeezender Fanaat ben.

Nu kan je Non Stop Muziek horen in de Juke - Box vorm van 1958 tot en met 1990 en dat loopt 24 uur per dag tot 31 juli om middernacht 12 uur as.

„In the summertime“ auf Radio Nordsee International

Bei RNI gab es die stündlichen Smashplays. Das war nichts anderes als bezahlte Werbung für eine wöchentlich neue Single. Colin Earl, der Keyborder von Mungo Jerry, erinnert sich in einem Interview, welches mit ihm und dem Bluesgitarristen Dave Peabody während der Mettmanner Blueswoche im März diesen Jahres gemacht wurde.

Diese Sendung der Gruppe „Bürgerhauswelle“ aus Erkrath läuft im Bürgerfunk über Radio Neandertal auf 97,6 MHz und im Livestream unter www.radioneandertal.de am Dienstag, dem 25. August 2009, von 21 bis 22 Uhr.

Die Frage dahinter, die sich der Hörer eventuell am Ende selbst stellt, bleibt unausgesprochen: Wieviel von der DSDS–kompatiblen Einheitsoße, die landesweite Senderketten heute täglich vergießen und die aus wehrlosen Lautsprechern eitert, ist eigentlich auch letztenendes bezahlte Musikwerbung?

In mei was ik in Israel voor een aantal dagen en had de mogelijkheid om op zoek gegaan naar evt. overblijfselen van het Peace ship van Abie Nathan. Binnen een dag stond ik, temidden van allerlei andere spullen, met het stuurwiel en wat reddingsboeien van het Peace ship in mijn handen. Daarnaast was er ook het complete archief van Abie, op schrift en in audio. Zonder problemen mocht ik foto's maken en heb die op deze pagina gezet.

Een UNIEKE serie programma's op de zondagmiddagen. Deze keer zelfs 2 uur lang tussen 16 en 18 uur.
Met telkens een terugblik op een deel van de Mi Amigo historie, aan de hand van persoonlijke herinneringen van DJ's, artiesten en andere direct betrokkenen. Interessante gasten dus, die de zeezenderperiode van zeer nabij hebben meegemaakt. Vanuit diverse invalshoeken worden de jaren '70 herbeleefd met in elke aflevering één of meerdere gasten, die hun licht laten schijnen op die roerige, maar onvergetelijke periode.

Maar ook de verdere loopbaan van Peter komt riant aan bod. VTM, TROS, Radio 10, KRO, Metropolys, Radio Flandria, 192 ..... om zo maar eens wat stations te noemen. Een ware aanrader dus !!

One of the power modules of the BT 1002 has been faulty. So 1602 kHz was a bit less strong as we should want it to be. At 14.15 today the Rohde & Schwartz transmitter has been fired up. As a result the strongest 1602 signal ever.

New Home

Red Sands Radio the local radio station that has to date broadcasts from the Offshore Forts has found a new home.

Said project-redsand chairman Robin Adcroft, “The WWII original fendering collapsed in the winter storm, it’s staggering it lasted 65 years! We’ve cut away the debris and are in the process of remaking replacement steelworks, but this won’t be completed in time for the Red Sands Radio broadcasts”.

However, Whitstable Angling Club has come to the rescue and offered Red Sands Radio its premises. Roland Joint Chairman of the club said “We welcome Red Sands Radio with open arms, we’re about to undergo a major refurbishment of our club house at the old Steam Packet public house. The radio will help promote the activities and the fast growing membership of the club”.

Omroepjingles uit Dallas op Nederlandse CD

ZWOLLE/BREDA – Alle belangrijke jinglepakketten die het legendarische jinglebedrijf PAMS in Dallas (VS) heeft gemaakt voor Nederlandse radiostations staan vanaf nu op CD. Het ‘Genootschap radiojingles en – tunes’ heeft vandaag de CD ‘PAMS in Holland’ uitgebracht. Daarop de complete jinglepakketten voor NCRV, TROS, Radio 10 Gold en Veronica. Het is voor het eerst dat de jingles op CD verschijnen. De makers hebben de beschikking gekregen over de originele mastertapes.

PAMS
Jinglebedrijf (1951 – 1977) was een begrip bij radiomakers in de hele wereld. Het was een ware jinglefabriek, waar in twee studio’s tegelijk jingles werden zongen voor duizenden stations over de hele wereld. In de jaren ’60 en ’70 waren de PAMS-jingles in Nederland illegaal te horen op Radio Veronica, Radio Noordzee, andere zeezenders en op Hilversum 3. Nederlandse radiomakers knipten de naam van het oorspronkelijke station er uit en vervingen die door een andere gezongen tekst. Zonder het te weten kent heel Nederland daardoor de beroemde jingles van PAMS.

INHOUD
De eerste Nederlandse PAMS klant, in 1975, was de NCRV. Die liet de jingles van Radio London opnieuw inzingen, in erbarmelijk Nederlands van de Texaanse zangers.
Het jaar erop maakte producer Jaap Eggermont jingles voor de TROS op basis van PAMS jingles. Hij beluisterde de originele jingles op demobandjes en speelde ze na. Op die manier produceerde hij enkele jaren later ook de Stars on 45. Ook Radio Paradijs kocht jingles bij PAMS. De zeezender werd in 1981 al bij de eerste testuitzendingen uit de lucht gehaald. Die jingles zijn dus nooit uitgezonden, maar staan nu in onberispelijk stereo op de CD.
Verder op de CD jingles voor Radio Veronica (uit 1994) en Cable One, en alle jingles die het Nederlandse bedrijf Top Format in Haarlem in 1995 en 1996 geheel in PAMS-stijl produceerde voor Radio 10 Gold.

GOUDEN GLANS
‘PAMS in Holland’ is een CD die we al jaren wilden maken”, zeggen de twee oprichters van het Genootschap radiojingles en – tunes, Jelle Boonstra en Benno Roozen. “Er bestaat een gouden glans rond de naam PAMS. Elk station in de VS dat jingles kocht bij PAMS werd bijna automatisch nummer één in z’n radiomarkt. Daardoor werd ook de radiomarkt in Europa wakker. Luisteraars waren dol op die liedjes, die speciaal voor de radio waren geschreven.” Het CD tekstboekje is in het Engels en bevat unieke foto’s van de mastertapes, zangsessies en het befaamde PAMS studiogebouw aan 4141 Office Parkway in Dallas. Het kostte het Genootschap jaren om alle materiaal bij elkaar te krijgen en de rechten te krijgen.

Aanstaande zondagmiddag 10 mei begint Radio Mi Amigo 192 met het vervolg op de veelbeluisterde en goed gewaardeerde 1 januari uitzendingen.
Hierin nam de oorspronkelijke DJ ploeg van Mi Amigo opnieuw enthousiast achter de microfoon plaats om het jubileumprogramma 35 jaar Mi Amigo te presenteren.

Tot mijn groot genoegen kan ik u melden dat Hans Knot een Koninklijke onderscheiding heeft gekregen namens H.M de Koningin.

In zijn toespraak memoreerde de burgemeester van Groningen (de heer Wallage) het werk van Hans Knot op de Universiteit en zijn activiteiten zoals het schrijven van boeken en video en audio inzake de zeezenders. Hiermede is offshore radio eindelijk - zoals de Duitsers dat zo voortreffelijk verwoorden - salonfaehig geworden.

De heer Wallage roemde zijn werk voor de Stichting Media Communicatie, vanaf heden dus ook Koninklijk!

Hans, het was een bijzonder leuke ochtend, geniet ervan en blijf vooral je activiteiten nog jarenlang voortzetten. Mede dankzij je lieve vrouw zal dit ongetwijfeld lukken.

The governing radio watchdog Ofcom has awarded Red Sands Radio a licence to broadcast to the Coastal Towns throughout July.

With roots firmly in Offshore Pirate Radio it’s unfortunate that the station, now in its third year isn’t able to transmit from its normal Fort base off Whitstable coast due to storm damage incurred during winter storms.

But on a positive note the station will be setting up in the centre of the Community at Whitstable Harbour, providing a balanced blend of ‘feel good music’, topical information, news & local guests.

Programme Director Bob Le-Roi said, “On one hand we’re disappointed not to be on the Fort but at the same time excited to be able to be assessable to the people we serve, Red Sands Radio really will put the local back into local radio”.

Tom Mulder en de tramfoto's.

Tom Mulder was tussen 1969 en 2004 zeer actief binnen de Nederlandse radiowereld is voor voor velen wel de bekendste Nederlandse radiostem. Zo werkte hij ondermeer voor Radio Veronica, de TROS, Cable One en en Radio Tien (Gold). In 2004 werd hij geveld door een ernstige hersenbloeding, waardoor helaas een einde kwam aan zijn rijke radioloopbaan. Momenteel is hij op weg naar een complete genezing. Maar voor zijn radiobekendheid stond hij in Amsterdam op zijn 9e jaar al uitgebreid in de krant. De oorzaak was een van de zwaarste tramongelukken uit de Amsterdamse geschiedenis, waarbij hij betrokken raakte. Door dit ongeluk raakte hij zeer geinteresseerd in de geschiedenis van de Amsterdamse trams.

Terwijl hij na het ongeluk een jaar niet met de tram durfde. Ging hij vanaf zijn 14e ging hij fotograferen. Dit resulteerde in duizenden tramfoto's, die hij in de jaren 60 maakte. Een aantal van deze foto's werd ook geplaatst in Amsterdamse dagbladen. Een selektie van deze schitterende tramfoto's is nu te vinden op internet. Door samenwerking met de internetsite 'Amsterdamse trams' is een mooie fotoselektie ontstaan, die de site erg aantrekkelijk heeft gemaakt. The boat that rocked

Maandag 6 april was de officiële première voor Nederland van de eerste speelfilm met als onderwerp: zeezenders. Bij binnenkomst in Tuschinski stonden daar heel prettig uitziende dames met glazen drank in de handen en ze hadden leuke jaren zestig kleren aan.

Miljoenen mensen hebben in de jaren zestig van de vorige eeuw genoten van de zeezenders en eindelijk decennia later wordt op humoristische wijze in een speelfilm Radio Caroline ‘herdacht’. De film is een hommage aan Radio Caroline, dat merk je aan het verhaal: een huwelijksvoltrekking aan boord van Radio Rock, de personages die heel duidelijk sloegen op bekende diskjockeys en zelfs Ronan O’Rahilly werd gepersifleerd. Aan het eind van de film wordt het zinken van het zendschip in beeld gebracht. Bij Radio Rock werd ook een niet Caroline dj uitgebeeld, namelijk John Peel, een man die ook na het einde van Radio London zijn stempel in radioland duidelijk heeft gedrukt.

In de film ‘The Boat that rocked’ worden de jaren zestig uitgebeeld als de jaren van sex drugs en rock ’n roll. Een beetje te veel naar mijn smaak en daarmee was Tom Blomberg, die naast mij zat, het helemaal mee eens. Maar gelukkig ook werd het kortzichtige van de minister president van Engeland, Mr. Wilson goed weergegeven. Hij was van de Labour Partij, die toch weinig democratisch was in die tijd. Volgens de film was 85% van de Engelsen pro zeezenders. De muziek in de film is overweldigend. Je waant je helemaal in die tijd. Geschiedkundig is de film niet want bij de aftiteling werd bijvoorbeeld gesproken over het einde van de zeezenders in 1967 (heb ik nooit geweten) en de zeezenders begonnen ergens in 1966 (ook helemaal nieuw voor mij). 25 miljoen mensen luisterden naar de zeezenders, ook een getal die uit een wel hele dikke duim komt. Na afloop was er nog een jaren zestig disco met twee spannende dames op de dansvloer en bij het verlaten van Tuschinsky kreeg je nog een Veronica pret pakket in je handen gedrukt. Daarin zat onder meer een doos met dvd’s en een bouwplaat van de Borkum Riff.

Gaan zien die film. Hij is leuk.

En nu maar hopen dat er ook een film gemaakt wordt over de geschiedenis van de zeezenders. Zoals Hans Knot eens in een krantenartikel zei: er is nog veel te doen.

RADIO CAROLINE TRIBUTE

American listeners were lucky, they had great Top 40 radio stations in the Sixties, but Britain did not. In 1964 the only UK radio provider, the BBC played just two hours of Rock'n'roll a week. An entrepreneur started a record label with Georgie Fame as his signing and the BBC would not play the single. It was that point, and the actions he took that changed the face of British radio forever. He took on the Government and the BBC......

On Easter Sunday 1964 Radio Caroline started broadcasting from a ship outside the UK Territorial waters. Roger Davis plays tribute to this moment with a great show featuring interviews from the major players as well as the great music of the era.

The "Unofficial" Radio Report

The film The Boat That Rocked http://www.theboatthatrocked.com/ went on general release on the 1st April in the UK, a month earlier than was originally planned. I was glad it was launched on a Wednesday, because here in the UK we have a thing called “Orange Wednesday” were Orange customers can request a “2 for the price of 1” cinema ticket by text message, so I went with my mate Nick and it cost us just £4 each!

We both agreed that the film was better than we anticipated and despite being fans of the pirates we were not that worried that the storyline was not accurate and took the film for what is, which is not a documentary about Radio Caroline in the 60’s. Obviously it is loosely based on the station, the DJ’s and some of the things that happened such as the passing of the MOA by the government. I am not sure how popular the film is going to be. There were not many seats sold at the 18.15 showing in Ashford. A couple of female friends went to see it in a larger town and found a similar attendance on the same day. Incidentally, they were both disappointed with the film, apart from the music, which drew them to it in the first place. Their opinion was that it was a bloke film (because it is about a boat full of men!), but not all females share this view. One reviewer said that the film will make you feel good after you have seen it and that is exactly how I felt as I left the cinema. I even bought the soundtrack a couple of days later. However, I notice that some tracks are missing (e.g. Seekers, Rolling Stones) and I’m sure there are tracks on the double CD that were not featured in the film.

The Independent and Guardian UK Newspapers ran a Boat That Rocked competition with the prize including a full tour of the Ross Revenge, a chance to meet the DJs and introduce some tunes live on air during Radio Caroline’s 45th Birthday celebrations at Easter. The premiere of the film was at the Odeon Leicester Square on the 23rd March and not only were their stars from the film, but from radio, including former Caroline and Radio London Pirates Johnnie Walker and Dave Cash and even Sir Paul McCartney was there to tell BBC news that he remembered the Pirates playing good music. Tony Paul during the week commencing 2nd March had a world exclusive interview with Bill Nighy on Radio Caroline’s Breakfast Show. Meanwhile on BBC 1’s “The One Show” on the 24th March there was a good piece featuring Peter Moore and the Ross Revenge. It’s no longer available via the BBC, but there are unofficial websites where you can download it. I managed to get a good quality one thanks to the “Pole with Soul”. It may have even got onto YouTube by now.

BBC Radio 4’s Media Show on the 25th March had a 10 minute interview with DLT and Rosko. The former stated that he had taken the original microphone from the Mi Amigo when he left, because the ship was going to be broken up! Many radio stations have been jumping on the pirate radio band wagon, because of the film. BBC Radio 2 was probably the first with a weekly series called “Pirate Johnnie Walker” which started on Saturday 7th February from 21.00 to 23.00 hours. From tomorrow it moves to the new time of 18.00 to 20.00 hours and on Easter Saturday (11th April) the show will come live from the Ha’Penny Pier in Harwich. Johnnie pretends to be on a fantasy Pirate Radio station on the MV Rock n’ Roll and has a different guest DJ from a neighbouring ship every week. So far these have included DLT, Roger Day, Paul Burnett, Dave Cash, Tony Blackburn and this week it is the turn of Rosko. It was originally meant to be an 8 week series, but it looks like it will be running longer if he is live from Harwich on Easter Saturday.

Since the 8th February BBC Radio Essex have been warming up to their forthcoming Easter Pirate BBC Essex broadcast with a programme of the same name every Sunday from 15.00 to 16.00 hours presented by Tim Gillet. Dave Cash on BBC Kent and also other stations in the South did an excellent 2 hour Pirate Radio Special on Saturday evening 28th March, which featured interviews with Richard Curtis, the Director of the film and stars Bill Neigy and Nick frost, but the highlight was one with Tony Benn the ex Postmaster General. Benn tried to play down his role in closing down the Pirates and said that personally he used to listen to them and his reasons for doing so was to force the BBC to open a pop radio station and get people off his case regarding complaints for the alleged interference to emergency service/foreign stations and for not paying royalties to the record companies. Dave put him right on the latter point, because the Pirates had offered to pay them, but the top management of Decca, EMI etc refused. Dave has written an article on the origins and history of Pirate Radio, including his involvement and there is a nice link at the end to the Radio Caroline website. Well done Dave and BBC Radio Kent. And now for the other news since my last report………..

At midnight on the 4th February it was the debut radio show of Ted Elliot on Radio Caroline. He also appeared the following Saturday (7th) as the replacement for Cloggie Time, whilst our Dutch friends take a rest. Ted, who has appeared on such radio stations as Mercia Sound, Heart and Arrow (the UK version) now, does Saturday afternoons and his show is repeated at midnight on Wednesdays.

Alan King found an interesting Max Headroom video on YouTube and despite having the title “Talks about Golf”; it features brief film footage of the Ross Revenge (Caroline) and the Communicator (Laser 558) ships. Well spotted Alan. I used to love Max and if I remember correctly he programmes were on early Channel 4 in the UK.

On Sunday 8th February Manx Radio broadcast the documentary “The Other Radio Caroline” by Paul Rowley. This was originally broadcast on various BBC Local Radio stations, so it was interesting to see the switch to commercial radio. This was apparently followed by a phone in, but having not heard this I cannot comment on the response they had.

You may remember that last time I reported on a new internet radio station on the Isle of Wight called www.wightfm.com and if you had seen their website like I had, you could be forgiven for getting excited about the line up of presenters. However it has been a big disappointment, because most of them have only been heard making voice tracked announcements of who they are and the station ID. However, one presenter was “live” and lived up to his reputation of being a shock jock, when he allowed a listener during the daytime to use the worst swear word possible whist on air. No time delay was used to censor this!

Big L.is still claiming on their website that “The all new Big L is coming”, whilst “Growing old disgracefully” and “we’re getting our act together!” Surprisingly they are still showing the 1395AM frequency and Sky 0190. I did read that Big L were heard on Shortwave in March and according to the www.friendsofbigl.co.uk website they will be back during the Easter weekend on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday broadcasting on 9770 khz between 07.30 am and 14.30 pm UTC. Presenters will include Adrian John, Mike Read, and of course Roger Davis. You can email requests in advance on dutch@bigl.co.uk

Apparently on the 14th February Pandora (Radio Caroline) had a rant and rave in her box about receiving a parking fine. She was so upset she used the word B**locks and asked listeners for donations to help her pay the £120 ticket. I could not believe how this led to loads of postings on a Radio Caroline Yahoo group. The members were mostly upset about the use of full word for balls. I don’t like hearing swearing on the radio, but I wouldn’t be too offended over this word, especially at that time of night and as someone pointed out, John Patrick often uses the same word when things go wrong, but no one has complained about him. By the way JP has been unable to do his Thursday night programme since the 19th February, because he has had to go into hospital to have some bits removed (his words!), but as you can tell he is in good spirits and is hoping to be back sometime this month. Get well soon John, because we are missing you.

Friday 20th February was the last Tim Charles Blue R120 for the time being, but the Magic Carpet Ride continues as usual on Thursday evening on Radio Caroline. As a result Jeremy Chartham has been extended by 2 hours and is now on from Midnight on Friday to 7.00 hours on Saturday morning. Wow, how does he do it and a great show as well?

Arrow (the Dutch one), who run a Rock and Jazz FM station in the Netherlands, owe 9 millions of Euros in licence fee arrears to their government and pleaded for financial support from listeners etc. to keep them on the air. According to the Radio Netherlands web site no commercial radio station in the Netherlands is making money. A sad state of affairs and not helped by the current world economic crisis. From what I can make out from the Arrow website (sorry I cannot read Dutch) it looks like they have lost their terrestrial FM licences. They had to close by the 11th March at the latest if they did not pay the fees. However it seems both stations continue by cable and the internet, but what confuses me (I will check this out) is that under Arrow Rock it states AM 828. According to a BBC story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7920241.stm Pirate Radio across the UK is increasing, currently around 160 in the UK (mostly in London), but so are Police efforts to close them down. Over 700 stations were raided in 2007 and last years target was nearly 900 and the Police say they have a 100% conviction rate. Most of the complaints are for interference with Emergency Services communication and damage to properties used for broadcast locations.

Keith “Cardboard Shoes” Skues was 70 on the 4th March. He also celebrated 50 years in radio and is bringing out an updated edition of his book “Pop went the Pirates” soon. You can also hear Keith on the forthcoming Pirate BBC Essex this Easter. He really is a nice guy, so if get the chance, go and meet him in Harwich.

Radio Caroline was taken off John Brock’s internet stream on the 28th February, which completed the phasing out of his company’s services to the broadcaster. You may recall that Caroline moved from John’s studios on the 1st December. They now have cheaper alternatives. The clever thing was that when the Caroline stream was turned off at midnight, guess what station was heard in its place? Yes EKR. A smart move to increase their audience!

Brian Martin returned to the airwaves of Radio Caroline on Wednesday morning 11th March after an absence of around 30 years. Welcome back Brian.

On the 15th March I was shocked to hear Mark Stafford announce that Tim Stewart (Mitchard) had died. He had died after a long battle against Pancreatitis I was a friend of Tim's way back in the mid 1970's after walking into the Viking Radio studios (a Hospital Radio Station that broadcast to the Royal Sea Bathing Hospital), whilst on holiday in Margate. For a few years I did recorded radio shows for the station. I was living in Birmingham at the time. A few years ago we became reacquainted after I recognised his voice on the Capital Gold breakfast show. We had a reunion drink in Broadstairs, where he lived with his wife Anna and son Dylan. Tim used to work on other radio stations such as RBL, Invicta and finally on KMFM, before he changed career to become a professional photographer. He won awards for some of his pictures. The funeral was at the Thanet Crematorium on 18th March. It was the first humanist service that I have been to. This was the playing of chosen, some appropriate, pop music (e.g. the first track which was Madonna’s “Hey Mr DJ”) and a lady from the funeral company read out a pre prepared life history about Tim’s life. The service was well attended, so much that there were not enough seats and it was justly a nice hot sunny day. Radio personalities that I spotted were Nigel Harris, Mark Stafford and Roger Day. I was surprised at the absence of Johnny Lewis, but maybe he was working at the time.

Radio Seagull and Radio Waddenzee have announced on their website www.radioseagull.nl that they are taking their ship the LV Jenni Baynton out and anchoring it in Wadden Sea, Holland, between the 20th May and 6th June 2009, when they will be broadcasting live on 1602 AM using the ships transmitter on 1602. There will be tender visits out to the ship, so if you are interested please contact the station via their website. It was nice to hear Rob Ashard sitting in for Ray Copeland on Monday 23rd March. It’s a pity we don’t hear more of Rob on the station as he is such a professional.

The 28th March was the date of the Radio Caroline Birthday Party organised again by Roger Day. This year it was held at Grapes pub in Mayfair. Amongst the guests were Ronan, who has now got a mobile and seemed very relaxed in front of the cameras, Paul McKenna, Nigel Harris, Johnny Lewis (well how could he resist with beer being available!), Peter Moore, Roger Day, Jerry Wright, Peter Phillips, Paul Rusling, Don Stevens, Dick Palmer, Alan Beech, Mary and Chris Payne (from the www.radiolondon.co.uk website) and Mandy from Radio Seagull. I would like to make a controversial point. The reason that Caroline was able to celebrate its 45th year is because of the supporters and volunteers who work hard running the radio station and restoring the Ross Revenge. Maybe Roger and any other future organisers of such parties should remember this when deciding who to invite. There has been nothing this year for the fans and likewise when it was the 40th Anniversary, the big party attended by many of the former Caroline DJ’s was again the one organised by the aforementioned. I really love Twiggy, as he does one of the best shows on the radio, but I just felt I had to voice my opinion on this subject and I hope he will not resent me for doing so.

On Sunday 5th April BBC Radio 2 will make some changes. Johnnie Walker is moving to 15.00 to 17.00 hours and with a new format of “Sounds of the 70’s". Pick of the Pops, if you are interested, has moved to Saturday’s. Paul O’Grady moves to Johnnie old slot.

Now here is an interesting concept by the BBC. They want to put every radio station in Britain on one website run by them in a bid to create a radio version of the 'iPlayer'. I wonder if that will include Radio Caroline! This will negate the need for listeners to go to the individual radio station websites and provide a 7 day listen again facility. Tony Paul has annoyed me in the past by going on about Paris Hilton too much. Well I can report that this is now not the case. For weeks he has annoyed me by playing the new Annie Lennox single “Shining Light” for what seems to be every day and now I am sick of hearing it! Tony please delete it from your computer. I do enjoy enjoy your show apart from these annoying little things.

Last month I told you that my daughter Rhiannon was going to do a tandem skydive to raise money for the Rainbow Trust. I am happy to report that she survived this and raised around £250. Nederland krijgt weer een radiostation op zee. Het lichtschip Jenni Baynton van Radio Waddenzee (1602 AM) gaat op woensdag 20 mei voor anker nabij Griend op de Waddenzee. Ruim twee weken lang komen vervolgens 24 uur per etmaal alle programma's rechtstreeks via de scheepszender vanaf het lichtschip. Overdag gaan de Nederlandse deejays van Radio Waddenzee de programma's (07.00 - 19.00) presenteren. 's Avonds en 's nachts (19.00 - 07.00 uur) zijn er de Engelstalige uitzendingen met de deejays van Radio Seagull. Op zaterdag 23 en zondag 24 mei zal er een tender tussen Harlingen en het zendschip gaan varen. Belangstellenden kunnen die dagen een bezoek aan het radioschip brengen. Aan boord is er dan voor de bezoekers een rondleiding en uiteraard kan de studio worden bekeken.
