Just saw the article on Offshore Radio Newsflash. Got very excited for about 30 seconds, then I looked at date. Nice one!

1 APRIL!!!
Jan-Fre Vos

What a great April Fool's joke. I wonder if many people will be taken in! The sad thing is that this is just the sort of "news" that we would like to hear. It´s been awfully dull on the radio for a long time! Well done, great story,
Alan Maylin

Hi! I'm sure it's a 1st April joke... yes or no? HAVE A GOOD WEEK-END! All the best.
Xavier Defrance/Contact FM (Lille, France)

Great news about Maritime Radio. Looks like I will have to get over to Holland this summer and check out the new offshore station. This is very exciting, I hope they can pull this of legally. It's going to very interesting to see what happens. I will be checking out you web site daily (as usual) for Maritime Radio progress. Thanks for your great work on your web page. Sincerely,
Bruce Knopper

Some hours later:

Oh Great! Just ruined my afternoon....
Bruce Knopper

Leuke stunt! Ik ben er van overtuigd dat er zeer vele anoraks over de datum heen lezen en de vervolg pagina opzoeken waar natuurlijk staat "1 april"!! Is de foto van de Nannell of zo?
Sietse Brouwer

Very nice!!! Well done!!! I completely forgot about the 1st April - it is not "celebrated" here in Israel. As of a few years ago something was printed in the newspapers here and caused a major diplomatic incident. Since then, the papers are not allowed to print April 1st puns. This must of taken a lot of preparation -the picture was wonderful - where is it from?
There was I thinking for a moment that my exclusive rights to reporting about the world´s only offshore radio station was coming to an end... Well done again,
Mike Brand

One hell of a joke Martin. Both Hans and I enjoyed it. Greetings,
Jelle Knot

I must admit, you did fool me and I hooked up my world receiver. But than I thought this must be a joke.. Which ship is it on the photo, was it ever used for broadcasting..?
Karel Koopman

Dietmar Flacke

Sounds like an april fool to me, looks too much like the MV Nannell to me.
NOSBOD

So funny, my head fell off with laughter. Please tell me how can we ever believe what you say in the future. Your new site which I am going to set up will be www.offshore-radio.co.uk and will be identical to yours and will be full of CRAP, MR Van Dan Dick head.
Shaun Brown

I have just left Den Haag to live in Adelaide, Australia. This bit of news killed me for a few minutes. Would have been good.
Philip (an Irishman in OZ)

Habe Maritime Radio klar und deutlich auf allen Frequenzen empfangen. Sogar auf FM brach das Signal der benachbarten Sender zusammen. Endlich wieder ein starker Seesender!!!
Gerhard Fiolka

I was almost taken in by your april fools day joke on new offshore station. A new offshore station off the Dutch coast would be very nice.
Chris Arundel

Oh, if only!!!

Wish it was true... Just 'tuned in' and saw the joke.. At this moment listening some very old tapes I made in august 1978 of radio MiAmigo. Then they had a special rememberance of august 1974..
I don't know why I'm doing this, because I never have played the tapes again since I taped them..

Maybe ... whatever...

Last summer I finally saw the Norderney 'live' in Leeuwarden. I think it is such a shame that 'the proud of dutch radio-history' is rusting away, useless. Last august, during the revival, one of the listeners wrote something like:
"Could it be possible to bring back a off-shore radio station, but than 'legal'?"

And that is still in my mind. Why can't the Norderney be brought back to sea and start the transmissions of a current land-based station from the ship. Maybe a deal with Radio 10 can be made.... Use their AM frequency.. If the project needs donations... I think there will be enough people to start in the venture.. I would donate easily a DFl. 100,- each month. Think what a 1000 donators could do than.....

Just a ship at sea, committing to the laws, started by listeners, who will become 'shareholders'.....

Maybe wishful thinking, or maybe a dream sometimes becoming true???

Keep up the good site!!
Ron Spanjer

Well I thought it must be an April Fool as I knew I'm not due on board any radio ship (actually it will be the LV 18) until this Easter weekend!!

Best wishes,
Pete MacFarlane (aka Kevin Turner!)

Loved the April 1st joke, I almost fell for it and might have done so if I had not been talking to Charlie Wolf just before I saw your 'report'. Great fun, keep it up!!!
Tom Collins (TTS MediaPro)

Well yes it was to good to be true. Yes many would like to hear that news for real. Just trying to find a station which plays the "Caroline" format of music is just impossible, in fact more and more it´s difficult to find music as many "music" stations seem to consist of DJ's who just want to gabble on and exercise their egos. Why not conduct a poll and see just how many people would listen to a "Caroline" style radio ship if it were possibe?

As always even your jokes are of a very high standard, a lot of my friends phoned me from all over the world asking me about the new station, even some I had not had contact with for years. I enjoyed very much talking about the new station and I believe some people I talked to think it´s going to still happen (the power of the printed word). If you have time check out the Radio London site as I did an interview with them just recently. As always I continue like many other people to visit your website on an ongoing basis and your dedication to the subject still shines brightly.
Cheers,
Ben Healy

Very nice joke I must say! Let's hope we hear a news item like this in the future (not a joke!).
